Week 1 Excitement of a New Season
We talked about the mystery and excitement of a new season. Excitement comes from the unknown. Our hope is that you will get excited about the mystery of God and who He is in your life throughout the season.
Week 2 Sizing Things Up
The path to victory includes sizing up your teammates and your competition. In a spiritual sense, we sized up our life: disinterested spectator, interested spectator, student of the game, former player. What are you?
Week 3 Need for Teammates
Great teams are made up of players with character. In order for a team to be victorious, there is a need for chemistry among the teammates. Is there chemistry on your team? Why?
The same is true in life. If you want to be victorious, you need to be surrounded by great teammates. Who in your life has kept you accountable for things? Spiritually, who do you look to for support?
Week 4 Freedom
Volleyball, first known as mintonette was invented by William Morgan, of the YMCA, in 1895. He wanted a sport for young businessmen that was less physically demanding than basketball. The original rules allowed for any number of hits and any number of players on each side. It was not until 1916 that a series of rule changes took place.
Did rules change to restrict the players? No. it was to let them play more freely. Freedom is not found in doing whatever I want, but in playing within the boundaries of the rules designed for the game.
The same is true with God. He created life adn gave us truths not to restrict us, but to release us and give us freedom.
Week 5 Playbook for Life
In the athletic realm, playbooks are precious items. They give insight into the coaches plans and design of the team for any situation in the game. The mind of the coach is written all over the playbook.
Similar to an athletic playbook, God gave us a plan for our lives on earth in the Bible. Everything we need to know about his design for life, his mind and his heart is written in his playbook.
Week 6 Essence of the Game
Webster defines volleyball as "a game played by 2 teams in a rectangular court divided by a high net, in which both teams us up to 3 hits to ground the ball on the opposing teams' side. But this definition does not capture the essence of the game of volleyball, it can be discovered by comparing it to different sports and finding what makes it unique.
If we were to compare Christianity to all other world religions, we would find many similarities, but the one thing that makes Christianity unique to all other religions is GRACE. Other religions are spelled DO (doing things to please the god), Christianity is spelled DONE (it's all been done for us).
