1. Is ROAR open to the entire community or do you have to belong to Westminster or another church?
ROAR is open to all willing participants. Most of our divisions have a variety of skill levels on each team from beginner to advanced. All players are given equal opportunity to excel and to enjoy the lessons of athletic competition, including emphasis on both skills and good sportsmanship. We emphasize 'trying your best ' and believe that every player is of equal value regardless of their athletic ability.
2. Do you play any teams outside of ROAR?
No, given our expected turnout of 350+ players each season, we plan to have more than enough teams to play each other.
3. What does ROAR cost and what does your registration fee cover?
Registration fees vary by sport (check out our web page under the sport you are interested in to get specific registration info on that sport).
We provide each player with an individual team uniform (jersey [all sports], shorts [soccer], socks [soccer], hat [baseball]) and a participation trophy.
We also provide monies for scholarships for families in hardship. Other monies are used for field maintenance, game equipment, and program administration. We believe ROAR Sports League is a great value!
4. Is there anything else that I need to buy my child before the first practice?
Each player is required to wear shin guards [soccer] for practice and games - which may be purchased at local sporting goods stores. Parents should label each garment and water bottle with the players name before arriving at the playing fields. Please refrain from bringing your own balls to practice or games. They may get lost in the shuffle. ROAR recommends but does not require soccer shoes for all players but any tennis shoe will be fine for players.
A picture schedule is published for each sport. Pictures are usually taken the second week of the season on game day. Order forms will be distributed to you at the season kickoff night. Payment is expected the day of pictures. Every player will receive a free picture, so everyone needs to be in the team picture even if you do not wish to purchase pictures individually. Your player’s team will be given a specific time and will need to arrive promptly to keep our schedule running smoothly. Pictures will be returned before the end of the season.
6. Do you accept coach/team player requests?
Since our numbers have steadily increased this practice has grown to be especially difficult. With over 350 players each season, we cannot accept requests.
7. How are teams put together?
Our objective at ROAR will always be to serve those that have selected us for their youth sports experience the best we can. Our primary commitment is to attempt to place all “same family” players on the same team. Next we try our best to provide skill parity throughout each division based on number of seasons played and age within the division.
