ROAR USL & MLS Teams

ROAR MLS & USL are headed up by  Lesslie Pursley and Sally Young. The goal is to create a place where families can come and fellowship while playing the game of soccer at Westminster Park on India Hook Road! We want each kid to feel special regardless of their skill set.

ROAR USL (Ages 5-8) - 12 athletes
This skill building program is for individuals with disabilities to learn the fundamental skills including positions, dribbling, passing, and how to control the soccer ball.  ROAR Lions will support this program by partnering with athletes as they learn the basics of soccer.  Soccer cleats and shinguard's are required, uniforms will be provided.  

ROAR MLS (Ages 9-16) - 12 athletes

This program is for individuals with disabilities to further develop their soccer skills through structured training and competition.  Athletes will participate in weekly practices and games. The commitment will be two hours a week. Soccer cleats and shinguard's are required, uniforms will be provided. 

 

Practice Schedule: 

Practices will take place either on Tuesday Night. (Thursday Nights are Make Up nights if rain occurs).

  • 6:45 pm - USL Scheduled Practice Time (45 minutes) - Upper Field 4
  • 5:45 pm - MLS Scheduled Practice Time (60 minutes) - Lower Field 2A

 

Uniforms:

All players will receive a ROAR Jersey. The jerseys will be distributed at the practice the week before the first games. NOTE: Shorts and socks will not be included in the package but we ask that all players wear black shorts on game days!  All players are expected to provide their own cleats and shinguard's.

Tentative Game Days and Times: 

6-7 Soccer Games will be played on Saturday Mornings at Westminster Park and 1-2 during the weekday practice time.

ROAR Lions

ROAR is seeking 8 middle school students to volunteer to assist in training athletes with special needs. The primary focus of this league is to develop friendships, foster understanding, and break barriers.

ROAR Lion Checklist:

In 7th or 8th grade only
Willingness to learn & teach soccer
Preferred soccer experience
Must apply through online application, be approved, then complete signup  ROAR Lion Application
Attend Training Day
Commitment to this team (2 hours per week) - assist with practices and games
Responsible
Possible service hours needed
Ready to have some fun!

This is a chance for our coaches to meet our ROAR Lions and get to know them. There will also be some instruction given as well as information. Parents are encouraged to attend.

How Do I Register?

ROAR MLS (Ages 9-16) - 15 athletes

To register for this program you must e-mail Sally Young at [email protected] She will be able to send you a registration link where you can sign your child up. Please include your child's name, your e-mail, child's disability information, etc. in the e-mail you send to Sally.  

ROAR USL (Ages 5-8) - 12 athletes

How do I know if my child qualifies?

Don't worry about this too much. What we ask is that you reach out to either Sally, via the e-mail provided above, and just tell them more about your child and they can help determine whether this league is what is best for you or can help direct you somewhere else that may be more accommodating to your child's needs.
